Brown Water Snake

(Nerodia taxispilota)

Brown Watersnakes are relatively large (30-60 in.) fairly heavy-bodied semi-aquatic snakes. Brown Watersnakes are excellent climbers and can be found 20 feet up in trees, though they are most frequently seen basking on tree limbs that extend over the water. Although nonvenomous, the bite of a large brown water snake can be quite painful.
