Diamondback Terrapin

(Malaclemys terrapin)

This species is the only turtle in North America that makes its home exclusively in brackish water, where salt water from the ocean mixes with fresh water. They are officially listed as "Threatened" in Massachusetts. Local populations have fallen dramatically, especially on Cape Cod.
