Copperheads are not aggressive & generally avoid contact with people, however, bites can be dangerous to people. If bitten you should seek immediate medical care. Most bites happen when the snakes are intentionally molested or accidentally stepped on. Copperheads should be admired at a distance.

They are endangered in Massachusetts and under the Massachusetts Endangered Species Act it is illegal to kill, harass, or possess them.
